About 'pet scan lung cancer'|New diagnostic imaging for lung cancer could prevent unnecessary surgery
Insulin Potentiation Therapy called IPT for short. Is noted as being a gentler, safe, provides more effectiveness, less expensive, no surgery required, no radiation and most of the time no side effects. So what exactly is IPT therapy? IPT also known as low dose chemotherapy and one of the most unconventional methods that treats cancer. It also treats aggressive types of cancers such as lung and colon but is effective in most all types of cancers. This treatment does not carry the usual side effects which accompany most conventional treatments such as nausea, hair loss, liver damage and DNA alterations. The main principal of this treatment is using the body's own insulin. Outline of IPT IPT still ranks as an uncertain cancer therapy which implies the use of insulin as an additional factor to intensify the effect of chemotherapy and other medications. Dr. Donato Perez Garcia had developed this therapy in Mexico during the 1930's and it has been used in conjunction with other alternative therapies. Those who endorse IPT believe that cancer cells absorb more amounts of sugar than healthy cells and due to that fact, cancer cells are more sensitive to insulin and insulin like growth factor (IGF). Also, insulin is believed to add to the accessibility of cell membranes, increasing the functioning with the cells concentration and causing a toxic effect of anticancer drugs. The idea behind this therapy, if cancer cells can be stimulated by exogenous insulin, a decreased dose (which is up to one-tenth the normal dosage) of a chemo drug could give the exact toxic effect with decreased severe reactions. Also, in pharmacology profiles on simultaneous use of insulin and chemo drugs are deficient and not clear if the insulin also increases the toxic effects of chemotherapy on healthy cells. Even though many advocates for IPT have noted case reports which suggest the IPT could be effective, there is no information available for a comparison to conventional chemotherapy. Nearly all medications used like insulin along with other chemotherapy drugs are granted approval by the FDA, but IPT clinics are said to give these drugs which do not have FDA approval. Please note that IPT does remain an unproven cancer treatment. Even though the National Institutes of Health have shown an interest in conducting clinical trails there has been no funding to date. The following information is what is available on this therapy for informational purposes and is not advocating the IPT therapy as a cancer treatment. The Sweet Tooth Of Cancer It has been said numerous times that sugar feeds cancer. It may feed it but it also is it's vulnerable point. PET scans are used to locate cancer by observing the sugar uptake. A radioactive agent is mixed with sugar and water due to the fact cancer cells absorb more sugar than healthy ones. The picture shows where the increased uptake and a mass where the cancer is located. In IPT therapy, chemotherapy and sugar is used. The cellular membranes are opened wider for more absorption. IPT administers insulin to activate a drop in the patients blood sugar level. Healthy cells than change to fat metabolism. Since cancer cells depend on all most complete sugar metabolism, they then go into an emergency mechanism and open all of their membranes in attempt to acquire the sugar they drastically need. Now the cancer cells become vulnerable. Following that procedure a small amount of chemotherapy is given and quickly followed by glucose. The cancer cells being frantic to get to the glucose, absorb almost all of the dose of the chemotherapy drug too. The drugs toxicity eventually eliminates the cancer cells. Only one-tenth of a chemotherapy drug is used. The method used in IPT allows for targeting the toxic drugs directly to the cancer cells. There is hardly any chemotherapy drug left to produce a toxic reaction in the healthy cells. Patients treated this way have been know to have immensely decreased side effects. Conventional chemotherapy does not use insulin to open cells. Patients are given substantial doses of drugs so enough becomes absorbed by the cells in order to perform the task. A major amount of the drug is not taken up by the cancer cells and the large dosages create havoc on the health cells and blood components. Conventional chemotherapy does not aim at cancer cells. Therefore, the immune system becomes injured and patients under many unwanted negative side effects. Insulin's enhancing ability IPT consists of a measure of low blood sugar with improves effectiveness of therapeutic drugs and aides the immune system. IPT does the following: Makes cell membranes more absorbent increasing the uptake of drugs into the cells. It aides in sending the drugs across the blood brain barrier. Insulin also has the ability to aide in sending higher amounts of chemotherapy drugs into cancer cells which causes the cells to go into a growth phase where they become more vulnerable to the chemotherapy drugs. Cells are hit harder when they are most vulnerable to the attack therefore maximizing the outcomes. IPT may also be able to alter the blood chemistry for the better. It also believe it can detoxify. When IPT eliminates the cancer cells, it pushes toxins into the circulation which allows them to leave the body. Due to this fact special attention is paid to supporting the liver during IPT. A few case studies 59 year old male with squamous cell colorectal cancer The tumor had measured 4.3x3x3 centimeters in mass He received IPT for eight weeks along with the following: Immunotherapy IV Homeopathic detoxification IV high dose vitamin C PET scan conducted after two months had revealed dramatic improvements. Among them the mass was no longer present. 48 year old female inflammatory breast cancer with extensive metastasis to the bones. Receive IPT therapy weekly and also treated with the following: IV Homeopathic detoxification IV high dose vitamin C Patient had left breast cancer and lumpectomy was done followed by chemotherapy. The PET showed 8.0 cm lobular metabolically active mass. After treatment the mass was no longer seen. IPT Therapy Listings IPT therapy can be found worldwide. There are IPT physicians in the United States, for a listing you can find them online at IPT Cancer Physicians Listings. Receiving Low Dose Chemotherapy Patients have to arrive in morning and fast after their dinner the night before. Patients are in a private room, made comfortable and then an IV will be inserted. Insulin is given through the IV for twenty to forty minutes to decrease blood sugar levels. Normal glucose range is 80 to 100mg/dl, it will be dropped to around forty to sixty mg/dl. After twenty to thirty minutes patients may feel the symptoms of low blood sugar such as thirst, hunger, mild sweat and increased body temperature. Upon reaching the objective number, cell doors become opened and medications can than be effectively absorbed. Chemotherapy is then added to IV. The drugs are given quickly followed by administered glucose. Symptoms of hypoglycemia quickly vanish. Along with the glucose IV patients usually consume a high sugar drink such as fruit juice to restore normal blood sugar levels. Treatments are usually 1 ½ to 2 hours in length. At the beginning of IPT the physician may schedule one or two sessions a week. It depends on severity of cancer and patients reaction to therapy. Sessions usually become decreased to once a month and then one in every three months. IPT treatments are usually used with alternative treatments which attack cancer cells some of them are Homeopathic detox, Prolotherapy, vitamin C, reflexology. For a complete list is is available on the site. Customized Since each person is different and reacts differently to medications, treatments are geared on an individual basis. A different protocol may be used following treatments. Meaning if you are treated for ovarian cancer a different protocol will be used than in a patient being treated for lung cancer. Cancer Free Even when the scans show the patient is cancer free, most patients come in for regular checkups to keep the cancer permanently away. Free Personal Orientation You can receive a free personal orientation online from the EuroMed Foundation online at Etna Systems or you can call 602-404-0400 to schedule a telephone or in person orientation. IPT patients share their stories online at IPT Questions. Sources: Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center EuroMed Foundation Insulin Potentiation Therapy |
